The 2025 NFL trade deadline has come and gone for the Kansas City Chiefs, with the front office opting not to make a move to improve the roster. Aside from the noted abandoned deal for New York Jets running back Breece Hall, another proposed trade also failed to materialize, according to recent reports.

According to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Sunday, the Chiefs made a late, intense push to acquire Seattle Seahawks linebacker Boye Mafe. There was a belief that the deal would be completed, with one source thinking it was already done. Before the deadline, Seattle opted to keep Mafe for the remainder of the season.

Mafe has 13 total tackles in eight games played this season. The former Minnesota standout is in his fourth season after being selected in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft by the Seahawks. He entered the 2025 season with 18 career sacks and two forced fumbles.

The Chiefs’ defense was reportedly looking to potentially add another impact player to an already impressive unit this season.
