Since the Kansas City Chiefs aren’t playing until the final game of the NFL’s Week 8 slate, a Monday Night Football matchup against the Washington Commanders, they’ve been slow to return to practice in order to adjust their rhythms. That meant Chiefs fans haven’t been given a real update on several fronts in quite some time.
The Chiefs are fresh off a devastating win over the Las Vegas Raiders. The 31-0 shutout included some historic numbers, and sent the Chiefs to the right side of .500 for the first time in 2025.
However, as fun as that win was in Week 7, the Chiefs have several areas of concern, or at least questions to answer, as they look ahead to another week of football and the hope of going to 5-3.

Head coach Andy Reid spoke with reporters on Thursday as the Chiefs got back to practice and answered questions while also giving a fresh look into the team’s injuries.
First, Reid spoke about the players who would be forced to miss practice on Thursday. Running back Kareem Hunt, who was sidelined for a spell in the game against the Raiders, was sitting out with a bone bruise in his knee. Reid immediately tried to alleviate any concerns there, saying that he would be okay in the long run.
Right guard Trey Smith was seen receiving treatment on Sunday for back pain, and the Chiefs are holding him out of practice as well as he deals with lower back spasms, per Reid. “It’s getting better, and we’ll just see how it goes,” said Reid.
Rookie left tackle Josh Simmons remains out for the Chiefs as well. He’s reportedly attending to a personal matter, and no one in the Chiefs organization has been willing to provide any details, as should be expected in such a scenario. However, Reid did address his ongoing absence. “My update for you with Josh is that there’s communication. I’m not going to get into all of it. Everything is positive. It’s not a negative situation. He’s taking care of family,” said Reid.
One other injury to address was that of Omarr Norman-Lott, the Chiefs’ second-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, who went down with a torn ACL against the Raiders. The young defensive tackle was expected to earn more reps going forward, but the team is now facing a considerable void along the interior.
Reid was asked about the possibility of Mike Danna sliding inside from defensive end at times. “Mike does, he jumps in there now and gets snaps in there. But he is an option, for sure. He’s a good football player. I’m okay with where we’re at, but I thought Omarr was coming on for sure. He’s going to be a good football player after he gets this thing worked on.”
It remains to be seen if some of the injured players will be ready for Week 8, but the Chiefs are holding out a few bodies in the hopes that rest will have them prepared for the Commanders in primetime. If not, the Chiefs should still have a solid opportunity in front of them knowing Jayden Daniels has already been declared out of the game.
